The Village of Frankfort board is advertising the return of their annual chili cook-off competition since it was canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the December board meeting, Frankfort Mayor Keith Ogle took some time to advertise and promote the upcoming Fire and Ice Festival. The event is going to be held downtown on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. This social is one of the town’s biggest events and is making a big comeback from the pandemic years.
The social includes a lot of different events: there will be live ice sculpting demonstrations, along with family friendly ice games, a big bonfire with hot chocolate and smores, and the annual chili cook-off. Tasting for the chili competition is free, and both individuals and local restaurants can enter.
"Now this chili cook-off was an amateur event for 25 years and the last one we held was in February of 2020, right before COVID. So we were bringing this back and we used to have about 20-25 competitors from all over the region," Ogle said at the meeting. "You don't have to live in Frankfort just to do this; if you think you've got a chili recipe that can stand up to this! It's free tastings out there. So it's a great event and it's great to bring it back."
The chili cook-off is open to any competitors that feel they have a recipe that might have a shot at winning. Pre-registration is required to enter the event and is due by Friday, Jan. 27. Entries are free, but the number of contestants will be limited. There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner chosen at the end by the people’s vote. More information is available on the city’s website.
