The Barrington Public School Board of Education recently took a moment to congratulate the 2022 Prairie Scholastic Bowl Team, who won the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) Class AA State Championship on May 6, according to a press release.
They took home the number one place in the state out of over 400 teams that competed. The team strategized against each team they competed with and knew how to take them down. Their season record was 24-2. The only two losses of the year were against the Station campus of Barrington Middle school. The post-season record was 12-0. The team won the state championship with a score of 315-135.
"Congratulations @Prairie220 Scholastic Bowl Team on WINNING the @IESA_IL State Championship! So proud of you!!!" Barrington Middle School Assistant Principal & Athletic Activities Director wrote in a May 6 Twitter post.
The Prairie team was present at the June 7 Barrington 220 board of education meeting to receive recognition for their accomplishment.
"I have had the privilege of teaching and coaching these players over the last three years. We have built a team that is far more than just the best in the state of Illinois. We have built a team of academic athletes who strive to do their best while remaining humble and being thankful for the intellectual gifts that they have been given," teacher and team coach Amy Boucek said. "I knew halfway through the 21-22 season that Prairie Campus had a special team. Our two young lady members began an online group for all the female scholastic bowl athletes they met and played against throughout the season. They forged friendships that they will continue to have as they join their respective high school scholastic bowl teams."
The middle school team members are all going on to high school.
