Illinois state Rep. Tom Morrison will be starting his 2nd Annual Baby Closet Drive, collecting much-needed baby items for Hopeful Beginnings in Palatine through Dec. 9.

“Happy Giving Tuesday!" Morrison posted on Facebook. "As we embark further into the holiday season, there is a special emphasis traditionally placed on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving for giving back to others in need. In the spirit of spreading good cheer, giving back, and inspiring generosity, today is the first day of my 2nd ANNUAL BABY CLOSET DRIVE!"

Those interested in participating may visit Morrison's site or call 847-202-6584 for more information. Donations can be dropped off at Morrison's district office, located at 117 E. Palatine Road, Suite 106 in Palatine.

The most needed items are boys’ and girls’ winter clothing for 12 months and size 3, clothing of any kind for sizes 18 months-5T, bath towels, wash clothes, bibs, formula, baby shampoo and lotion, diaper cream, pacifiers, onesies, size newborn diapers, baby proofing items, thermometers and simple puzzles or games for small children.

Hopeful Beginnings is a nonprofit that provides care and services for pregnant and new moms in need. They also support women experiencing postpartum depression or grieving the loss of a pregnancy. Hopeful Beginnings’ Baby Closet provides essential items to women in need.

According to American Progress, 56% of people living below the poverty line in the U.S. are women, exacerbating the need for this service. Almost 25% of all unmarried mothers live in poverty.
