Gubernatorial candidate and current Illinois state Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) hit the campaign trail over the Labor Day weekend and joined a parade of supporters in Cook County.

During his time in Cook County, Bailey encouraged voters to fire Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) when they head to the polls during the general election in November of 2022.

"Our movement was represented by great volunteers in parades in both Cook and Will County today," Bailey wrote in a Sept. 5 tweet. "Thank you to everyone who showed up and represented our grassroots movement to #FirePritzker and restore Illinois."

Bailey has nicknamed Pritzker the "mandate candidate" for his COVID-19 mandates, including a recent indoor mask mandate for everyone older than 2 years old, according to the East Central Reporter

"The 'mandate candidate' has proven he's unwilling to listen and lead. Unwilling to engage the people and legislature to take targeted approaches, support local control, and find solutions that do not decimate our economy, hurt our children, or diminish freedoms," Bailey wrote in a series of tweets on Sept. 1. "We are a diverse state and a one-size-fits-all approach and tyrannical unilateral mandates from a liberal governor do not work. We must take a targeted approach where we engage local leaders, empower individuals and provide support for local entities to make the best decisions for their community and families."

Bailey, a farmer, joined the list of Republicans throwing their hats in the ring to try to unseat Pritzker back in February. Bailey has vowed to stand up for the people of Illinois.

"We must restore common sense in Springfield," Bailey tweeted on Aug. 17. "As your next governor, I will fight to cut taxes, stand up for working families and put Illinois first.

According to the East Central Reporter, Bailey has also expressed the need for lawmakers to push ethics reform. He said the depth of the problem was highlighted when Legislative Inspector General Carol Pope resigned from her position.

Also, Bailey was one of four members of the Illinois legislature who signed what's known as a friend-of -the-court brief that supported a lawsuit in Mississippi aimed at overturning Roe v. Wade, Prairie State Wire reported.

According to the same article, Bailey has also received a 100% rating from Illinois Right to Life Action for his voting record on abortion legislation.
