State Rep. Tom Morrison (R-Palatine) has endorsed the Republicans United for the Taxpayer slate for the Palatine Township Board.

“Local government is a huge driver of property taxes and every single day it affects our quality of life,” Morrison told the North Cook News. “Especially here in Cook County, we need proven, competent professionals to represent us.”

Republicans United for the Taxpayer is billed as a fiscally conservative group of eight Republicans seeking to control the Palatine board on the strength of their pledge to freeze taxes for the duration of their four-year term.

A former small business owner, grade school teacher and radio newscaster, Morrison has served as the 54th District since 2011. He won reelection in November against Democrat Maggie Trevor with nearly 52% of the vote.

Morrison also holds the distinction of being the first Illinois legislator to entirely opt-out of the state’s pension systems. Since then, over 60 other Illinois lawmakers have followed suit. Morrison has also been among Republican lawmakers leading the charge to root out corruption in Springfield. He was also adamant in calling for the ouster of longtime House Speaker Mike Madigan after he was implicated in a pay-for-play scandal involving ComEd that ultimately led to his resignation earlier this year after nearly four decades of being in power.

Morrison currently serves on the House’s Appropriations-General Service (Republican Spokesperson); Personnel & Pensions; Insurance; Elementary Secondary Education: Administration, Licensing & Charter (Republican Spokesperson); Energy & Environment; Human Services; Special Issues Subcommittee (ESE); Local Retirement System Subcommittee; Miscellaneous Issues Subcommittee; Pension Reform Subcommittee; Property Tax Relief Task Force committees.

The 54th District includes all or portions of Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Inverness, Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights, Barrington, and Schaumburg.
