Brian Locke is looking to the future in his run for the Village of Wilmette Board of Trustees.
“I am running because I am concerned regarding the financial future of the Village,” Locke told the North Cook News. “Though Wilmette is currently in good condition financially, we have experienced revenue declines in every category. This decline must be addressed proactively through a smart combination of reduced expenses and increased revenue, without adding to the already high taxpayer burden.”
Locke insists his platform is simple, consisting of policies aimed at attracting more businesses to the Village, maintaining a high quality of life for all residents and doing everything he can to keep property taxes from rising.
“Looking around the Village, I see many empty storefronts which reflect a systemic problem of attracting businesses to the community - this must be a primary focus,” he added. “I am further concerned by activists in the community that have political, rather than practical agendas, and I am running in part in an attempt to reduce their influence.”
A mechanical engineer by trade, Locke and his wife have resided in Wilmette for five years, instantly falling in love with what he sees as the Village’s character.
“My whole family loves living in Wilmette,” he said. “We want to stay here to see our kids grow, and our grandkids grow. So when I see small businesses closing and many houses for sale, I wonder and worry about the future of the Village. I am running for Village Board because I want to work to preserve the excellent quality of life we all enjoy.”
Locke said his candidacy comes with a guarantee all residents can take to the bank.
“As a board member, I will work diligently with the rest of the board to keep our village flourishing,” he said. “I will work to support small businesses and find ways and bring in more, and to attract more residents to Wilmette.”
