A school principal of High School District 214, which is in Chicago’s northwest suburbs, said the school district will likely not return to normal until everyone is vaccinated.
One Twitter user shared the email saying that parents should prepare themselves because it is clear that school will not be returning to normal anytime soon.
“I hope you have had a restful and enjoyable break with your family,” the email starts. “This certainly has been a different type of break for my family with not traveling and seeing family. However, this is what we must do for our own safety, the safety of others, and to hopefully return to some normalcy until everyone has been vaccinated.”
The principal said they knew that day was one being looked forward to.
“I know that we are all looking forward to the day when Prospect can fully open and operate as we are accustomed to it being,” the email states.
Twitter users responded to the tweet, either agreeing or disagreeing with the idea that normalcy would eventually return.
“I received this email. He’s saying they made sacrifices hoping we can have some normalcy sooner (I.e. a higher phase) while waiting for people to get vaccinated,” one user responded. “He went on to say they are accommodating all who requested full in-person learning. My son will go 5 days/wk.”
Another user expressed concern with not returning to in-person school and said they would leave the state. The user said if her children were not in school 100% by May, her family would move out of Illinois.
“This is a tragedy,” another user responded. “Get ready for what happens next. The vaccine doesn’t prevent transmission. There needs to be a new vac for the new strain. We have gone from let’s not overwhelm hospitals to this indefinite fear.”
