Elk Grove FD responds to 109 fires in 2018

Elk Grove Fire District responded to 876 calls in 2018 - 3.4 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Elk Grove included 109 fires - 72 structure fires, 15 vehicle fires and 22 other fires. The fire department also responded to 13 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $953,330 in fire loss - or about $8,746 per fire.

The department also received 754 false calls, including 11 malicious calls and 743 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Elk Grove Fire District had an annual budget of $2,048,024 in 2017.

The Elk Grove Village Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 88 active employees and 94 retired or inactive employees, was $437,669 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $4,052 for every fire in 2017.
