Hoffman Estates FD responds to 110 fires in 2018

Hoffman Estates Fire District responded to 793 calls in 2018 - 1.3 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Hoffman Estates included 110 fires - 58 structure fires, 20 vehicle fires and 32 other fires. The fire department also responded to seven calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $2,981,950 in fire loss - or about $27,109 per fire.

The department also received 676 false calls, including 30 malicious calls and 646 other false calls.

The calls resulted in five civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and six were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Hoffman Estates Fire District had an annual budget of $61,505 in 2017.

The Hoffman Estates Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 94 active employees and 75 retired or inactive employees, was $5,236,291 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $50,349 for every fire in 2017.
