Morton Grove FD responds to 53 fires in 2018

Morton Grove Fire District responded to 318 calls in 2018 - 2.8 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Morton Grove included 53 fires - 31 structure fires, three vehicle fires and 19 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $126,203 in fire loss - or about $2,381 per fire.

The department also received 261 false calls, including 15 malicious calls and 246 other false calls.

Two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and two were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Morton Grove Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 40 active employees and 54 retired or inactive employees, was $1,218,146 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $24,363 for every fire in 2017.
