ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 55: Moylan Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month; Highlights Resources for Business Owners

55

Illinois State House District 55 issued the following announcement on Sept. 17

Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month, and state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is committed to supporting Hispanic and other minority communities in Illinois who have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 crisis this year.

“The Hispanic communities across Illinois are so full of culture and history, which should be celebrated during this month as they help define what it is to be American,” Moylan said. “Unfortunately many Hispanic owned businesses and institutions have suffered significantly because of the COVID-19 crisis, and we must do all we can to support these businesses and help them make it through the pandemic.”

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), the Department of Central Management Services (CMS) and other state agencies will be partnering with the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and other institutions to provide resources aimed at the growth of Hispanic businesses. These free events will consist of special panels from industry experts, grant application assistance, tools to access capital, business certification and more. The events begin this week and are all free to join. For more information on these events or to register, visit https://www2.illinois.gov/dceo/AboutDCEO/Pages/MinEcoEmp.aspx.

“Throughout this unprecedented crisis, everyone’s life has been impacted, but the COVID-19 crisis continues to disproportionately impact minority communities,” Moylan said. “We cannot sit idly by and allow COVID-19 to destroy our local businesses. We must do everything we can to help these businesses thrive again.”
