Illinois State House District 54 issued the following announcement on Aug. 28
State Representative Tom Morrison (R-Palatine) received the 2020 Legislator of the Year Award from the Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers (ICCBC) today during Morrison’s 3rd community blood drive this summer.
“We’re grateful to have someone who’s worked so hard on our behalf,” said Margaret Vaughn, ICCBC Government Affairs Director. “Sixty-percent of our blood supply comes from community blood drives, and since March, thousands have been cancelled due to COVID-19. Especially during this time of crisis, he has gone above and beyond to answer the call of duty,” she said.
Rep. Morrison has held his blood drives in partnership with Vitalant and Palatine Township, observing all the necessary health and safety protocols.
“We are extremely grateful to Rep Morrison for stepping up without hesitation from the very beginning of the COVID crisis to help increase the state’s blood supply and for his hard work and dedication,” said Holly Seese, Vitalant Communications Manager.
Morrison’s drives have not only made an impact in increasing the blood supply to help save lives but have also collected food donations for the Palatine Township food pantry.
“The need for blood is something that unites us as human beings,” said Morrison. “With all of the tension and turmoil going on in the world today, this is just one positive, life-giving activity we can do as individuals and a community. We collected 27 pints today, including one from my wife, who was a first time donor,” Morrison added.
The Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers (ICCBC) was founded in 2002 and is a statewide organization made up of not-for-profit blood centers whose mission is to increase awareness of the importance of volunteer blood donation through public education and advocacy.
Rep. Morrison is looking forward to hosting more blood drives in his 54th District in the future.
