The Illinois lawsuit environment is abusive, irresponsible and unfair. Our current system allows for all kinds of meritless cases to be taken to court. Hungry for a massive payout, trial lawyers file frivolous lawsuit after frivolous lawsuit, packing our courtrooms with them and leaving manufacturers in constant fear of being the next victim.
Product liability lawsuits are a prime example of these abused forms of litigation. Through product liability, lawyers can sue manufacturers even if they aren’t at fault. In fact, a manufacturer can be sued over an accident that resulted from a consumer misusing their product. Our current regulations hold manufacturers responsible for all sorts of unforeseeable accidents. To be held responsible for things you cannot prevent is simply unfair.
We need our elected officials to protect our manufacturers against the abuse of trial lawyers seeking payouts. It’s time to close the loopholes in product liability that allow for this irresponsible practice.
