City of Prospect Heights Fire/Police Commission met April 24.

Here is the minutes provided by the commission:

CALL TO ORDER - At 4:16 PM, Chairman Hoffman called to order to the Fire Police Commission Regular Meeting at City Hall, 8 North Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, Il 60070.

ROLL CALL - Deputy Clerk Schultheis called roll. A quorum was established.

COMMISSIONERS PRESENT – Chairman Hoffman, Commissioner Meyer ABSENT – Commissioner Fiorito by previous notification

OTHER OFFICIALS PRESENT – Chief Zawlocki, Deputy Chief Porlier, Executive Administrative Assistant Batten, Deputy Clerk Schultheis

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A. February 27, 2019 Regular Meeting Minutes – Commissioner Meyer moved for approval of the February 27, 2019 Regular Meeting Minutes; seconded by Chairman Hoffman.

VOICE VOTE: All ayes, no nays.

Motion carried 2 – 0, Commissioner Fiorito absent.

CLOSED SESSION – If needed - There was no request for closed session

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION - Action on Executive Items, if required

OLD BUSINESS

A. Update on Schoenbeck Road sidewalk - Chief Zawlocki said that he spoke with the City Administrator regarding grant money for Schoenbeck Road sidewalk. Chief Zawlocki said that the grant split used to be 80/20, but the newer rates were showing that the City would be paying a larger share. There was a desire to have flashing lights and crossing signs at a minimum. It was noted that the school district does reimburse the City for crossing guards; so Commissioner Meyer suggested a crossing guard be stationed there. Chief Zawlocki said that he would ask the school about a guard and that he would check about issuing a questionnaire.

NEW BUSINESS

A. Annual Report Information

a) New hires/retirees/officer assignments for Annual Report

b) New Equipment Purchase

c) Any other issues/events/matters of significance – It was noted that this

information was to be gathered for presentation to the City Council. Chief Zawlocki would gather the information. The presentation to the Council is to be made in June.

DEPARTMENTAL UPDATE

A. New Police Recruits – Chief Zawlocki noted that the three recruits had graduated on April 18th. They had all begun field training assigned to Officers Lange, Smith and Willis. They will complete training in July.

- Citizen’s Police Academy – there are 16 applicants in the class.

- Snowstorm Help – Officers O’Connor and Stone bought a installed a new

mailbox for a woman whose mailbox had been knocked down in the snowstorm. There was an article in the Daily Herald praising them for the kind gesture.

- Cop on a Rooftop – On May 17th, the police will be stationing police officers on the roof of Dunkin Donuts to collect donations for the Special Olympics.

CORRESPONDENCE/COMMUNICATIONS –

- Chief Zawlocki said that the East Dundee Police Department had asked about how

Prospect Heights sets up its daily routines to the schools, as they had heard about our police officer visits. Chief Zawlocki told them that the City has no set policy; but that the Police Officers visit on their patrols routinely. The school appreciates that the police come by, and that the visits are viewed positively by the faculty and students.

-Chief Zawlocki said that the MacArthur school secretary had passed away, and her husband had written a letter to the police department noting that all of the police officers had gone to his wife’s wake and funeral. He noted that the police had also given a gift.

- Outreach – it was noted that Officer Deol and Police Volunteer Jendreas are putting together the Outreach details. There will be events from May – August. - It was noted that Commissioner Fiorito’s term expired on May 23, 2019; and that the Mayor would need to reappoint him and have the City Council approve the appointment.

NEXT REGULAR MEETING – May 29, 2019 at City Hall Council Chambers, 8 North Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070 at 4 PM

ADJOURNMENT - At 4:30 PM, Commissioner Meyer moved to Adjourn; seconded by Chairman Hoffman.

VOICE VOTE: All ayes, no nays.

Motion carried 2 – 0, Commissioner Fiorito absent.
