Northbrook Park District issued the following announcement on June 14.

Celebrate the 4th of July with a run through the parks!

The 12th annual Liberty Loop 5K Run/Walk is set for 7:30am, Thursday, July 4 at Techny Prairie Park and Fields, 1750 Techny Road. Participants ages 6 and older are invited to walk or run on a certified 5K course through Techny Prairie Park and Fields and Meadowhill Park.

“Liberty Loop is the perfect kick-off to all the 4th of July festivities,” said Cameron Edelman, Recreation Supervisor. “So many Northbrook residents show up and it’s great seeing so many familiar faces.”

The event includes music from Bach to Rock and prizes from Dick Pond Athletics and Francesca’s North. Members of the American Legion will start the race with a patriotic presentation featuring bugles and American flags. Last year’s Liberty Loop drew more than 300 participants.

Medals will be awarded to top finishers. Race results will be available after the event. Pre-registered participants receive a T-shirt and gift bag.

Registration fee is $20 for ages 6 to 12 and $30 for ages 13 and older. Registration forms are available at either Registration Office and nbparks.org. Race day registration is from 6:15-7am. Race packet pickup is 1-6pm, Wednesday, July 3 at Village Green Center, 1810 Walters Ave.

Children 5 and younger can run/walk at no charge but need to be registered.

The District also offers a 4th of July Liberty Lap Fun Run for junior joggers ages 4 to 10 through a 1-mile course at Techny Prairie Park and Fields. The run begins at 8:30am and starts and finishes at the same location as the Liberty Loop 5K. Runners receive a T-shirt, gift bag and miniature American flag. Fee is $10.

“Our Liberty Lap is great for kids who are not quite ready fora full 5K,” Edelman said. “This ensures no one gets left out.”

Online registration for both the Liberty Loop and Liberty Lap ends at 11:30am, Wednesday, July 3.
