CITY OF EVANSTON: 2019 Starlight Concert Series

City of Evanston issued the following announcement on May 28.

Evanston's 2019 Starlight Concert Series will feature nine free outdoor concerts at park locations throughout the city, June 4 through July 30.

Community members will enjoy a wide range of talented artists and musical genres, from Latin funk, to classic soul, to Southern rock, boogie and blues. The concert schedule is available at cityofevanston.org/starlight. 

Starlight concerts will take place on Tuesdays, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Interactive family activities will occur before each concert beginning at 6 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, concerts will take place at the Levy Senior Center, located at 300 Dodge Ave. The rain site for the June 18 concert is the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster St. Updates will be available after 4:30 p.m. on the show date by calling 847-448-4311 (until 6 p.m.) or by visiting cityofevanston.org/starlight.

The June 18 Starlight Concert at Twiggs Park will celebrate Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the abolition of slavery. The July 16 concert at Brummel Park will include a Food Truck Festival, with food trucks featuring a variety of food and dessert options on site beginning at 5:30 p.m. Food trucks will also be available at the Bent Park concert on June 11 beginning at 6 p.m.

The Starlight Concert Series is presented by the City's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. Sponsors include Renewal by Anderson, RCN, Goldfish Swim School and Westminster Place.

Twiggs Park, Dodge Avenue at Simpson Street

Brandon Markell Holmes - R&B with a twist from a Grammy-nominated singer, actor, writer and multimedia artist.

Tuesday, June 25

Baker Park, Keeney Street at Forest Avenue

Nellie "Tiger" Travis - Contemporary blues and Southern soul from "Chicago's New Queen of the Blues."

Tuesday, July 2

Kamen Park East, South Boulevard at Barton Avenue

Petra's Recession Seven - Swing jazz performed by a seven-piece ensemble and led by vocalist Petra van Nuis.

Tuesday, July 9

Canal Shores Golf Course, 1030 Central St.

Ésso - The polyrhythmic grooves of this tropical funk band will make you want to dance the night away.

Tuesday, July 16 - Food Truck Festival

Kevin Purcell and The Nightburners - Southern rock, boogie and blues tunes will energize your evening.
