Former state school employee Steinman paid in $9K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $169K in retirement

Former state school employee Cindy Steinman, who retired in March 2016, saved $9,209 toward a pension over 4 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Steinman would collect as much as $168,896, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes North Cook News.

The projection assumes Steinman received $3,550 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Steinman will have already received $10,974 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
