Smolenski points out Moylan's apparent deception about receiving Madigan money

Marilyn Smolenski, a 55th District state House candidate, pointed out the apparent duplicity of state Rep. Marty Moylan (D-Des Plaines) in a Tuesday press release.

“In a blatantly hypocritical move, state Rep. Marty Moylan is using a $610,000 infusion of cash from Speaker Madigan to run a television ad claiming that he doesn’t take money from Madigan, in hopes of saving his electoral chances,” Smolenski said in the press release.

This is not the first time such charges have surfaced. In an Oct. 18 YouTube video from Liberty Principles PAC, Moylan says at a meeting, “I do not take any money from Michael Madigan.”

However, the ad points out the Illinois Board of Elections shows Moylan has received more than $981,000 from the Democratic Party, led by Speaker Madigan. That funding is in addition to the recent $610,000 Madigan gift, bringing the total to $1.5 million.

Next, the ad shows Moylan leading a crowd in a chant: “Who do we like? Mike.”

The ad then closes with this statement: “If Marty Moylan lies to you and cheer leads for Mike Madigan, who do you think he serves?”

In her campaign press release, Smolenski called on “independent and fair-minded voters who do not support Madigan” to make a different choice at the ballot box on Tuesday.

“I’ve spent my life standing up to bullies like Moylan and Madigan, and the best way to do that is to call them on their lies,” Smolenski said in the release. “When voters know the truth, Moylan is rightfully afraid they will throw him out of office.”

The 55th District covers Chicago, Des Plaines, Park Ridge and Rolling Meadows.
