Wheeling CCSD 21 Musson paid in $10K to teachers pension fund, could collect $700k in retirement

Retired Wheeling CCSD 21 employee Barbara Musson saved $10,381 toward her pension over 7 years working for public schools, Illinois Teachers' Retirement Fund (TRS) records show.

Over 33 years of retirement, Musson would collect as much as $736,000, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes North Cook News.

Musson, 62, who currently lives in Iowa City, IA earned $11,947 in her final year at Wheeling CCSD 21.

The projection assumes Musson will receive $12,452 in her first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After three years of retirement, Musson will have already received $38,489 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of her contributions to the state teachers' pension fund.

According to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), 29.7 percent of Wheeling CCSD 21 students met or exceeded the standards for the "PARCC" exams.
