Wheeling Community Consolidated School District 21 students suspended 133 times in a single school year

Wheeling Community Consolidated School District 21 reported 133 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 133 students during the year. That equates to 2 percent of the 6,693 students enrolled.

Of the 117 in-school suspensions, 92 were given to boys and 25 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 56 incidents. There were 35 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 116 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 16 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 11 incidents. There were two incidents of violence without physical injury. For 15 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
