Avoca School District 37 students suspended 16 times in a single school year

Avoca School District 37 reported 16 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 16 students during the year. That equates to 2.1 percent of the 751 students enrolled.

Of the 15 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 12 incidents. There were one incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 10 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes one incidents. For one incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
