Palatine Community Consolidated School District 15 students suspended 397 times in a single school year

Palatine Community Consolidated School District 15 reported 397 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The district transferred three students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 397 students during the year. That equates to 3.2 percent of the 12,482 students enrolled.

Of the 340 in-school suspensions, 254 were given to boys and 86 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 301 incidents. There were 28 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 315 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 57 out-of-school suspensions, 40 were given to boys and 17 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 34 incidents. There were nine incidents of alcohol. For 40 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
