Jillian Rose Bernas, the Republican candidate for state House District 56, believes issues surrounding the state’s property taxes are out of control.

“We pay some of the highest property taxes in the nation. Property tax appeal lawyers, like Speaker Madigan, pass policies that crush taxpayers, while making themselves and their clients richer,” Bernas posted on Facebook. “Today, I signed this petition that bans property tax appeals lawyers from serving as lawmakers. This is a common-sense, bipartisan, good government initiative.”

Bernas is running against incumbent Rep. Michelle Mussman (D-Schaumburg) in the November general election.

Rep. Michelle Mussman

“Michelle Mussman has been in office for 7 years [sic] and our taxes have continued to rise.” Bernas posted. “She claims to fight for the middle class while taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Madigan and electing him as Speaker every time. Mussman won’t stand up to the corruption, but I will.”

The 56th House District includes Bloomingdale, Elk Grove, Palatine, Schaumburg and Wayne.
