Republican state House candidate Marilyn Smolenski wonders if lawmakers in Springfield like Rep. Marty Moylan (D-Des Plaines) ever think about the Illinois of tomorrow.
“Moylan is celebrating a budget that is not truly balanced,” Smolenski told the North Cook News, referring to her opponent in November’s general election and the newly passed $38.5 billion spending plan signed into law by Gov. Bruce Rauner.
“It delivers for the special interests and trial lawyers, but [it] brings no relief for us,” Smolenski added. “Moylan spends every dollar you sent from the 32 percent income tax hike and more. Moylan and his party dealt a hand that made it impossible to win, setting the stage for more tax increases.”
Instead of quick, patchwork legislation, Smolenski said the state desperately needs a plan that makes its longterm health a priority.
“Ask Moylan which tax he'll hike to pay for his unbalanced budget,” Smolenski added. “A tax on a retirement? A statewide property tax hike? All of the above?”
Smolenski said her strategy for remedying the state's financial problems couldn’t be more different.
“I will represent the people of our community and not special interest[s],” she said. “Moylan has shown he won't stand up for us. Now it is time to stand up to the politicians in charge.”
