Bernas criticizes Mussman for maintaining status quo

Springfield

Jillian Bernas wants to see Rep. Michelle Mussman (D-Schaumburg) do what she insists she would in Springfield.

"Every time Michelle Mussman has faced an opportunity to provide leadership and accountability, she has chosen to throw in with Mike Madigan and the status-quo instead of standing up for us,” Bernas, a Schaumburg Republican running against Mussman in the 56th District, posted to social media “Join our movement to bring accountability to Springfield and kick the political insiders out of power."

Bernas’ latest outrage was sparked by reports that allies of Madigan sought to retaliate against Rep. Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago) for raising questions about his handling of sexual harassment allegations against staffers.

The Chicago Tribune has reported Cassidy claims she was forced to resign from her part-time job in Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart’s office after she dared to publicly question Madigan’s handling of sexual harassment claims in his political and government organizations.

“Madigan and his team are once again exposed for their cover-ups and retaliations specifically against Rep. Cassidy in the wake of sexual harassment allegations against one of his chief political operatives," Bernas added in her post. “Mussman remains silent.”

In the end, Bernas said voters in her district deserve better.

“You deserve an independent leader who will demand Madigan resign and refuse to take money from him,” she added. “Mussman has had seven years to stand up to Madigan and change the status quo. Isn't that long enough?”
