Rep. David Harris (R-Arlington Heights) said what is right about Illinois this week is the use of reclaimed land.
Announcing his good news Monday at the House floor debate, Harris said the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has acknowledged the Prairie State for taking what is old and making it new again.
“They just announced their first annual National Federal Facility Excellence in Site Reuse Awards,” Harris said.

The awards recognize the hard work, innovative thinking and cooperation among federal agencies, states, tribes and local partners in cleaning up sites, said Harris, who added of the four sites mentioned, two are in Illinois.
“One of them is the Glenview Naval Air Station, which now has 2 million square feet of office space and retail, 400 acres of green space and a 165,000 square foot community center,” Harris said.
The second is just as noteworthy, according to Harris, who said the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant has the largest contiguous open space for bird habitat in northeastern Illinois.
