True to his weekly positive point of personal privilege, Rep. Dave Harris (R-Arlington Heights) had something good to say about Illinois.
Standing to announce his usual good news at the April 24 House floor debate, Harris said Leyden High School District 212 in Franklin Park was one of three grand prize winners of the annual Magna Awards, sponsored by the National School Boards Association (NSBA).
“This program recognizes school districts and their leaders for their efforts to bring educational equity to their students,” Harris said.

Leyden walked away with the win for its Teatro High School theater program, which produces plays in English and Spanish, Harris said.
“It gives Spanish-speaking students at Leyden a chance to highlight their talents and become more involved in the school community,” Harris said.
According to the NSBA website, “Spanish-speaking parents feel more welcome at the school when they attend performances in their native language.”
