Analysis: Wheeling pays $4.50 for every $1 pensioners contribute to Wheeling Firefighters Pension Fund

Taxpayers contributed 81.8 percent of the $2,594,584 the Wheeling Firefighters Pension Fund brought in last year, or $4.50 for every $1 from pension members, according to a North Cook News analysis of the latest data reported to the Illinois Department of Insurance Pension Division.

In all, Wheeling contributed $2,123,616 to the fund, which saw a $241,505 decrease in revenue over 2015. Members contributed $470,922, or 18.2 percent, in 2016. Another $46 came from other unspecified sources.
