Northbrook Arts Commission Exhibits Subcommittee met February 13.

Meetingroom02

Northbrook Arts Commission Exhibits Subcommittee met February 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

In attendance: Arts Commissioners: Sub Committee Chairman Jerry Block, Joan MacVay, Al Alvarez, Susan Wolf, Ernie Halperin and Commission Chairman Bruce Bondy, Artist in residence/Library staff Liaison Celeste Hanson.

Meeting called to order at 1:03pm by Commissioner Jerry Block.

The group reviewed and reapproved the minutes noting title of Commissioner Block for the minutes should be Subcommittee Chairman Block. Commissioner Wolf will be working Commissioner Moyer on the reception for the Exhibits. Moyer will coordinate the refreshments for the Pollak Room from 7-8:45pm. The event will run from April 5 to May 31.

Commissioner Wolf indicated it would be nice to have “walking tours” to highlight the work on the various floors. Each tour guide would have talking points and groups would be scheduled at 7:15, 7:45, and 8:15, and more times if needed.

The tour would use a list of art by floor featuring the name of the Artist, name of artwork and one sentence about the piece. A form would be sent to accepted artists asking a few questions so we would have the information to share during the tour. Bondy will provide questions for the form to send to the artists and he will provide the answers to Wolf and Hanson to compile.

Hanson will be able to create a final document once they determine where the art will be hung. Block indicated the number of pieces shown will be determined once the applications are received and reviewed. Last year there were 40 and the year prior were 51. This year the limit is about the same or less due to less wall space. Bondy noted that some of the work could be doubled up if it is smaller in scale.

Fayne-Depersio will contact Celeste with the full mailing/email list. There should be about 99 names on the list. It was noted that the list needs to be maintained to include past year participating artists. In addition, local Plein Air artists should be added to the list.

Group discussed having an invite/flyer to distribute to Village and Library Boards, as well as other groups such as the Chamber.

NB Friends of the Arts would be asked to pay for the reception food.

Juried art would be screened by Commissioners, which will be appointed at the next meeting.

The date to notify acceptance will be March 15. The artwork will be hung on April 4, with delivery on April 2-3 to the 2nd floor business office.

Celeste Hanson will use a template to determine where the art would be hung based on the sizes and space available.

Block summarized reception details with walking tours and looking for artist statements. Please note to send the revised application that Block will send Fayne to include with the extended date to Sunday, March 11.

The April regular Arts Commission meeting would be rescheduled for 6pm at the Library on Thursday, April 5, prior to the opening reception.

The promotion piece would be used as an invite and function as flyers and for the artists and others to email to promote both the opening and the event. Commissioners Bondy and Block will choose artwork for the promotion.

It was noted that the artists’ application includes a hold harmless agreement and release to feature the artwork. Copies of the form should go to the library.

A press release should be sent out in early March and be ready at the Plein Air Exhibit – Paintings at Sunset on March 9-11. It was also noted to gather names of local artists to include on the master list for future exhibits.

Adjourn:

The meeting adjourned at 2:04 p.m. Motioned by MacVay, , seconded by Halperin.
