A recently released YouTube video shows Marilyn Smolenski, the Park Ridge Republican vying for the 55th House District seat held by Rep. Marty Moylan (D-Des Plaines), endorsing Katie Miller in her GOP primary bid in the 53rd House District.
“My name is Marilyn, I am a domestic violence survivor, supporting Katie Miller,” Smolenski, who owns Nickel and Lace, a women’s concealed bodywear holster brand, says in the video, paid for by Liberty Principles PAC. “I have been stalked and attacked by someone who was once a loved one. It led me to start a business advocating for women’s safety.”
Miller, longtime nurse at St. Alexius in Hoffman Estates and case manager at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, is what Springfield needs, according to Smolenski, a Republican Women of Park Ridge board member.
“Both parties have failed to confront sexual abuse and we need new people in Springfield who are serious about standing up for victims,” Smolenski says in the video. “I know Katie Miller is such a person.”
Miller, who is looking to replace retiring Rep. David Harris (R-Arlington Heights) in the 53rd District that covers Arlington Heights, Prospect Heights and Mt. Prospect, and Smolenksi, who is seeking the 55th District seat that which covers parts of Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Elk Grove Village, and a small portion of Leyden Township and Norwood, have been campaigning since 2017.
In the video, Smolenski says with Miller, the days of state government being one big fraternity party will be over, and they should be.
“Please vote Katie Miller for state rep.,” Smolenski says.
