Statewide test results: 62 percent of Dr. Ml King Junior Literary & Fine Arts failed English language arts

About 38 percent of Dr. Ml King Junior Literary & Fine Arts School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2017 and 62 percent of students failed, according to a North Cook News analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to Dr. Ml King Junior Literary & Fine Arts School English language scores, about 29 percent met expectations and 8 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 27 percent approached expectations, while 19 percent partially met expectations and 17 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at Dr. Ml King Junior Literary & Fine Arts School, which enrolled 574 students in 2017, surpassed state averages.

Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only five percent 'exceeded' expectations.
