House candidate Katie Miller has been endorsed by the Republicans of Maine Township.
Recommending Miller bring fiscal conservatism to Springfield, the organization in a press release praised the House hopeful looking to replace retiring Rep. David Harris (R-Arlington Heights) in the 53rd District, which covers Prospect Heights and Mount Prospect.
“After Republican legislators caved and supported a tax increase that will be detrimental to so many suburban families, we are proud to support Katie Miller who will go to Springfield to restore the values of limited government and fiscal conservatism,” Char Foss-Eggemann, Republicans of Maine Township committeeman, said in a press release.
Miller said she accepts the endorsement with pride.
“I’m proud to accept the endorsement from Maine Township and I’m more ready than ever to go down to Springfield and start advocating for the taxpayers here in the Chicago suburbs,” Miller said in a press release. “The politicians in Springfield have let us down. They have voted to protect themselves instead of us, and as I go door-to-door people share my frustration about state government.”
There is no better time for Miller to make a move to Springfield since northwest suburban Cook County taxpayers will pay an additional $435 million in income taxes this year, thanks to the 32 percent increase that was included in the budget package lawmakers passed last summer, according to the release. The Maine Township GOP added that Harris was a key supporter of the tax-hike budget.
“I have stood up for my patients throughout my entire career, and now I’m ready to stand up for the families in my district and all across the state of Illinois,” Miller, a longtime nurse at St. Alexius in Hoffman Estates and case manager at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, said in the release.
“When I am elected I will fight for a truly balanced budget and responsible spending, and against new and unnecessary taxes,” Miller said.
