Wynes applauds House approval of federal tax code reform bill

Congress

Jeremy Wynes wasted little time applauding the U.S. House of Representatives approval of their $1.5 trillion tax reform bill.

“Today’s vote is a major win for Illinois taxpayers and families,” the Highland Park Republican candidate in the 10th Congressional District said in a statement on Dec. 19, the same day the House approved the bill. “It’s a tax cut for the middle class and includes major, pro-growth reforms that will help create thousands of new jobs.”

Earlier Tuesday, the House voted 227-203 along partisan lines to approve the largest overhaul of the U.S. tax code in three decades.

Wynes, who has launched his campaign for the seat held by Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL) in the 10th Congressional District, stands in full support and wants it noted that Schneider took a completely different stance.

“Schneider today made clear that his allegiance lies squarely with (Rep.) Nancy Pelosi (D-CA),” he added. “Next year, hard-working families and job creators won’t forget that Brad Schneider voted against cutting their taxes and know Schneider will vote for raising their taxes as soon as he’s given the chance.”

The legislation keeps in place seven tax brackets and cuts the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent. It also repeals the individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act, which some critics argue will leave as many as 13 million additional people without health care.

Wynes is on record as saying he thinks the country is currently far too divided and the time has come for a new generation of leaders.

"Washington is broken, and it’s time for the next generation of leaders to step up,” he previously told the North Cook News. “I’m running for Congress because the challenges facing our country today and tomorrow are way too important to be held captive to the extreme elements of one party or another."
