Gov. Bruce Rauner kept up his campaign for a global presence for Illinois manufacturing and trade to the Made in Elk Grove Manufacturing & Technology Expo recently as part of a statewide tour, according to a press release.
“One hundred thousand Illinoisans are employed by these companies,” Rauner said, according to the release. “We’re grateful to have them here. … We have been trying to get government out of the way … fighting for workers’ comp reform, cuts in red tape, reductions in unnecessary regulations … so they can grow.”
Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson also spoke highly of how Rauner advocates for manufacturing in the state, calling him "one of the reasons why manufacturing is doing so well over the last couple years."

“Under his leadership, he’s shown that we can make a difference," Johnson said, according to the release. "We can get things done … we want to thank the governor for showing his support for us.”
Rauner also presented the Elk Grove Business Excellence Awards to several companies that occupy the country's largest consolidated industrial park. He announced that October is “Built in Illinois” month to bring to focus the role Illinois has in the global manufacturing industry.
The general manufacturing industry makes up 13 percent of Illinois’ economy, with more than 12,000 companies employing nearly 600,000 people.
