The calls in Wheeling included 74 fires - 42 structure fires, 11 vehicle fires and 16 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.
In all, the department saw $483,737 in fire loss - or about $6,537 per fire.
The department also received 794 false calls, including 16 malicious calls and 778 other false calls.
The calls resulted in four civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.
The Wheeling Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 50 active employees and 54 retired or inactive employees, was $2,230,815 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $30,146 for every fire in 2016.
