Republican Jeremy Wynes has raised more than $160,000 in seven weeks for his bid to unseat Democrat Brad Schneider in the U.S. House of Representatives, his campaign recently announced.
A news release from Jeremy Wynes for Congress reported that the campaign had raised $11,520 since May 9, when Wynes announced his plan to run for the Illinois District 10. That gave the campaign $155,635 in cash on hand, the release said.
“In just seven weeks, we’ve laid a strong foundation for our campaign to bring new ideas and independent leadership to Washington for the people of the 10th District,” Wynes said in the statement.
Eighty-five percent of the fundraising has come from local donors; that $150,000 amount is a record for the district for a Republican candidate's first fundraising effort, the campaign noted.
“This campaign is powered by the people of the district because they know I’ll represent our shared values in Congress, unlike Brad Schneider, who has too often put partisan politics first," Wynes said in the news release.
Schneider was elected to the House in November 2016 for a two-year term after serving as a representative from 2013 to 2015, then losing in his re-election bid.
