Golf Elementary School District 67 Board met May 25.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

A Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Golf School District 67 was held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Golf Middle School, 9401 Waukegan Road, Morton Grove, Illinois, in said District. President Toth called the meeting to order at 6:38 pm.

Other Individuals Present: Dr. Beth Flores, Superintendent

Changes to the Agenda None.

Consent Agenda Motion:

Member Lindsay moved and Member Hussain seconded that the Board of Education of Golf School District 67 approve the Consent Agenda for May 25, 2017.

PTA Report Samina Hussain reported all positions have been filled at the May 10, 2017 election. The 8th grade dance is this evening. The end-of-year picnics are being planned. On June 5, 2017 there will be a fundraiser at the Dairy Queen. The volunteer appreciation dinner will be held on June 1, 2017. Golf 67’s Got Talent was a great success with over 40 acts. Back to school supply kits are available for purchase for Hynes students.

Administrators’ Report Dr. Flores reported the District held a third walk-in registration. There are

120 families who have not completed registration. Transportation applications will only be accepted through June 30, 2017. Graduation will be held on May 30, 2017 at 6:45 pm. The last day of school is June 7, 2017. We will be hosting a summer enrichment STEM program through the CFC for students entering 3rd and 5th grade. For the first time, we will be offering summer classes to kindergarten students to give them a jump start to 1st grade. Administration is working on staffing for next year. There will be some movement and new hires at Hynes. Dr. Flores is working on the ISBE end-of- year reports and title grant applications. The summer hours will remain the same as last year. We will be working four ten-hour days Monday through Thursdays with Fridays off.

Dr. Flores presented the Golf Middle School report. The 7th graders attended a field trip to Prairie Lakes Theatre to see High School Musical. Two successful fundraising events took place this month--Hoops for Hearts and Smash Cancer. The 8th graders finished their final exams and will have their awards assembly and breakfast tomorrow. Graduation will be held on May 30, 2017 at 6:45 pm. The 6th and 7th grade students will be going to Feed My Starving Children next week. The end-of year parties will be held next week. Students will be dismissed at 10:22 am on June 7, 2017.

Dr. Flores gave the Hynes Report. Hynes students are completing testing and benchmarking for the year. The 4th graders participated in an orientation session at Golf Middle School. On June 5, 2017 the kindergarten through 3rd grade students will visit the classes at the next grade level. Band and Chorus students gave a wonderful performance at the spring concert. The Read-Up program celebration took place this past week. The 4th grade awards assembly will be held on June 2, 2017. Field Day is planned for June 6, 2017. Many kindergarten students have been invited to participate in the summer STEM program. Several staff members attended Foundations training.

Items for Action Approval of Official Last Day of School for the 2016-2017 School Year

Annually, the Board of Education must determine the last official day of the school year. The school calendar submitted to the State of Illinois includes a provision for five emergency days. No emergency days were used; therefore, the last day of school for students will be on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.

Motion: Member Hollingsworth moved and President Toth seconded that the Board of Education of Golf School District 67 approve the Official Last Day of School as June 7, 2017.

Approval of Title I District Plan Each school district receiving Title I funds must submit a plan for approval in order to access their Title I dollars. Many elements of the required ESSA Title I District Plan were contained in the previous law, but some components are new. District responses in their approved Title I District Plan may be incorporated into the Title I application. The Title I Plans must be approved by ISBE prior to approval of Title I grant application. The Board of Education must approve the plan assurances as applicable to the Title I Plan.

Motion: Member Hussain moved and Member Barhoumeh seconded that the Board of Education of Golf School District 67 approve the certification and assurances set forth in the Title I District Plan.

Items for Information Assignment of Board Members to Review Financial Reports

Board members have been assigned to review the financial reports through April, 2018.

Member Lindsay inquired about more economical options for current vendors. An audit should be discussed at the next finance and facility committee meeting.

Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Requests One FOIA request was received this month and responded to within the mandated five business days.

Student Enrollment Hynes Elementary School – 369 students Golf Middle School – 289 students Total - 658 students

Finance Report Christine Hoffman presented an overview of the District’s current finances.

Board Committee Reports Classrooms First

Samina Hussain reported on the May 10, 2017 meeting. Jennifer Laughlin presented the Writer’s Workshop model. Dr. Shadel is the new Executive Director for Classrooms First. He discussed how D219 will be following a cohort group of our students from K-8th grades. D69 teacher Tina Brendel discussed how her new moveable furniture in the classroom has been a flexible tool in her classroom. Katy Casleton discussed how technology has transformed her classroom. Dr. Isoye reported CFC expenditures of $818,000 for this school year. Dr. Flores and Dr. Clauson discussed sustainability. Golf will be hosting the CFC meetings on November 8, 2017 and March 7, 2018 while D219 will be hosting the May 9, 2018 meeting.

Finance and Facilities Rich Searl discussed summer plans for both schools. We will be spending $250K of budget. Plans are to spend 2-3 weeks at each school. The first project is the replacement of doors and abatements which will take place at Hynes. Repairs will be made in the Golf art room which includes floors and asbestos removal. Three lower level Golf classrooms will also have asbestos removal. The lockers at Hynes will be replaced for approximately $66K. The Golf technology rooms are being restructured for approximately $55K. The IT staff offices are being moved so the team is closer together. Approximately $40K will be spent at Hynes to split one classroom into several smaller classrooms for optimal space utilization. The remaining security cameras will be installed for $40K. Non-certified staff salary increases of 2% and 3% were discussed. A survey of Niles Township schools’ teacher assistant wages were presented. The elimination of after school transportation would save the District $20K.

NTDSE Rich Toth reported having a reorganization meeting. Administrator contracts are being reviewed. The graduation ceremony is tonight.

Policy No meeting this month.

Technology Jermaine Lindsay reported the technology committee met this week to discuss the Net 56 proposal and what was delivered. Sam and Jermaine expressed some concerns about the level of detail and gaps in the Net 56 executive summary. Net 56 has agreed to refine their report to cover all of the items in the proposal. We will continue more action items to address the remaining gaps that were identified in the report.

Board Member Announcements/Open Forum

Nada Ardeleanu inquired about a future referendum. This topic will be discussed at the June meeting.

Nada Ardeleanu would like to discuss field trips at the June meeting.

Rich Toth informed the Board that re-elected Board Members received certificates from David Orr’s office.

A thank you card was sent to the Board for the staff recognition dinner.

A letter from teacher’s union will be discussed in closed session.

Closed Session Motion:

Member Hussain moved and Member Hollingsworth seconded that the Board of Education of Golf School District 67 move into closed session at 7:43 pm to discuss collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees AND the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body.
