Rep. Bob Dold (R-IL) recently discussed the skyrocketing health insurance rates in Illinois.

The Illinois Department of Insurance released its 2017 insurance rates, generating sticker shock among subscribers. After the collapse of the Land of Lincoln Co-op and Aetna's announcement that it is leaving the state, residents have been left with few health plan choices and rising rates.

“Uncertainty in health care -- everything from rising costs to (limited) doctor choice -- has plagued many of those in our community," Dold said. "There are already far too many families who are struggling just to make ends meet, while also straining to deal with the ever-increasing uncertainty in our health care system. Punishing cost increases and fewer choices will put affordable, quality care further out of reach for even more people."

Families that purchase health insurance through the federal health insurance exchange face premiums ranging from 30 to 77.3 percent higher under the proposed 2017 rate increases. Residents in some counties, including Kendall, Lake and McHenry, can only choose Blue Cross Blue Shield plans provided by the Health Care Services Corp. (HCSC).

"Going forward, I remain focused on working with everyone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and do the hard work needed to drive down costs, increase access to quality care and make our health care system work for everyone," Dold said.
