Wilmette is preparing to hold a one-day recycling event tomorrow, July 30.
The Village of Wilmette will sponsor a one-time recycling event for paper and electronics from 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow, July 30, at the Wilmette Public Works Facility, 711 Laramie Ave.
Citizens residing in Wilmette — as well as other communities that partner with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) — can bring paper documents and electronic devices to the facility for disposal. Constituents are reminded to bring identification with them for proof of residency.
This event is exclusively for residential customers; any material from businesses, schools or other institutions will not be accepted.
Village officials ask that paper documents be contained in paper bags or cardboard boxes, not plastic. Stapled and paper-clipped items are acceptable, but binders and metal clips must be removed before depositing. SWANCC will shred all documents on-site before sending materials to a recycling facility in Elk Grove Village.
Electronics guidelines stipulate that most household devices are acceptable — including phones, computers, televisions and entertainment electronics — but the facility cannot accept large appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, vacuums and similar equipment.
For a complete list of items and rules, residents should check the village home page.
