Park Ridge Board of Fire and Police Commissioners details April meeting

The City of Park Ridge Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met Wednesday, April 7.

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners consists of five members serving overlapping terms of three years. The board functions in the same capacity as the Civil Service Commission, but it only handles specific police and fire personnel. Members meet regularly, as needed.

Wednesday April 7, 2016 at 6:30 P.M.

I. ROLL CALL

Meeting was called to order at 6:30 P.M. by Chairman Farinella. Commissioners Tamvakis and Bennett were present.

Absent: Commissioners Duggan and Sandrik.

Others Present: Fire Chief Jeff Sorensen; Police Chief Frank Kaminski; Annie Eriksson, HR Generalist; and Attorney Mike Jurusik.

II. PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – March 2, 2016

Moved by Commissioner Bennett. Seconded by Commissioner Tamvakis. The Board unanimously approved the minutes.

IV. UNFINISHED BUSINESS

None.

V. NEW BUSINESS

A. Preference Points – Fire Department

Fire Chief Sorensen requested the Board to consider two possible changes to preference points for entry-level Firefighter/Paramedic candidates (Eligibility List For the Fire Department per Section 14.(D)3 of Park Ridge Board of Fire and Police Commissioner Rules). Fire Chief Sorensen requested  the Board’s input on possibly adding preference points for candidates who passed Lutheran General’s paramedic school in good standing and for candidates who are residents of Park Ridge.

The Board was amenable to changing the preference points. Attorney Mike Jurusik stated that he would write a memo outlining the proposed changes and the draft language for the Board’s consideration of and approval at the next scheduled monthly Board of Fire & Police Commission meeting on May 5.

B. Consideration of and Approval / Certification of Police Sergeant Promotion List Police Chief Kaminski informed the Board that the cumulative results of the Police Sergeant Promotion testing process were scored and the Sergeant Promotion List formed. The Board certified the Police Sergeant Promotion List.

C. Adjourn to Executive Session pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2 C1 to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body.

Moved by Commissioner Tamvakis. Seconded by Commissioner Bennett. The Board adjourned to closed session at 6:56 p.m. to review the Police Sergeant Promotion Test Scores. The Board returned to open session at 7:08 p.m.
