School District 57 request approved by the village board on Feb. 2.
The board of education for Mount Prospect School District 57 request to rezone 1420 and 1421 W. Central Road was approved on Feb. 2 by the Village of Mount Prospect.
The parcel was changed from CR Conservation-Recreation District to R1 Single-Family Residence.
The school board had obtained the W. Central parcel and other parcels on Busse Road to increase parking at Westbrook School and create a driveway from the school to W. Central Road. The driveway would be used for buses exiting the school grounds. Among the concerns of the trustees and local residents were traffic bottlenecks on W. Central and reducing the amount of recreational space in the village.
The W. Central parcel was the only parcel of the seven owned by the school district that was zoned CR Conservation-Recreation. The district wanted to consolidate the seven parcels into one lot. Should the school district put the property on the market in the next 25 years, the village has the first option to buy.
The public hearing was held by the Planning and Zoning Commission on Dec. 10. After the hearing, the commission approved the map amendment and moved the request forward to the village board, where it was approved.
