Sign and valet parking policies are on the agenda for today's meeting.

Sign and valet parking policies are on the agenda for today's meeting.

The Wilmette Municipal Services Committee will review the sign and valet parking policies at its 6:30 p.m. meeting today, April 5.

The committee will meet in the second-floor Council Chambers at the Village Hall, 1200 Wilmette Ave.

The village has followed a policy of reducing the number of signs. Before the reduction effort began, there were nearly 9,000 signs posted in the village, mainly relating to parking. Over the past five years, the village has removed a total of 1,695 signs and added 185. The committee will review the draft sign policy before moving it forward to the village board for adoption and implementation. The policy will formalize the current plan regarding new signage.

The committee will also review the draft valet parking policy. Business owners have requested valet parking for the Village Center. The committee will discuss the procedures drafted for obtaining a valet parking license and the regulations regarding valet parking in municipal parking lots in the Village Center.

The committee will also hear updates and discuss the separate storm sewer study commissioned in 2014. Among the topics of discussion will be the schedule and implementation of the relief storm sewer and the centralized stormwater storage, the cost and benefit analysis for the two alternatives and options for funding them.

The water system study performed by CDM Smith Inc. will be discussed by the committee. The study assessed the condition of the water plant and to determine the upgrades needed to rehabilitate the plant. The study showed that the plant is well maintained and that it meets the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act.
