A free awards ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 17.

The 24th annual Elgin Image Awards will be presented at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 17, in the Heritage Ballroom at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.

The event is open to the public. There is no charge to attend the festivities, but attendees are requested to RSVP at 847-931-5598. Refreshments will be served at 6 p.m., and the program will begin at 7 p.m.

The Image Advisory Commission selects the award winners from the nominations made earlier this year. The five award categories are: citizenship, individual professional, individual volunteer, organizations or businesses and special projects. The nominations and subsequent Image Awards are based on the nominees' contributions to improving Elgin's image. The Citizenship Award recognizes individuals who are outstanding examples of good citizens.

Although family members of commissioners are not eligible for the Image Awards, city employees may be nominated for contributions outside of their city positions. Organizations that receive city funding are eligible, as well as previous award winners whose last award was five or more years ago.
