The state will not send registration reminders to Illinois vehicle owners.
Due to the continuing budget impasse in the state of Illinois, the Secretary of State office suspended mailing vehicle registration notices last October.
The City of Prospect Heights reminds drivers that while renewal notices will not be mailed, it is still the vehicle owner's responsibility to ensure that the registration is paid on time.
Illinois vehicle owners can sign up for electronic reminder notices at the Secretary of State website www.cyberdriveillinois.com. To sign up for email notifications, the owner needs the registration ID and PIN, which is on the last Illinois Registration Identification Card for the vehicle. If the registration card has been misplaced, call the Public Inquiry Division at 800-252-8980.
Drivers can also renew their license plates online here. To register the vehicle, the driver needs the registration ID and PIN from the old registration card and the insurance company information, including the policy number and expiration date. Payments must be made with an electronic check or a credit card. A fee for an online payment will be added to the total amount due.
Owners who do not have computer access, have changes in the vehicle information or are participants in the Benefit Access Program can go to the nearest drivers license office to renew their plates.
