The Prospect Heights Tourism Board will get an update on the beautification project on Milwaukee Avenue at its next meeting at 9 a.m. Friday at the Hilton Chicago Northbrook, 2855 Milwaukee Ave.
The beautification of the center islands on Milwaukee Avenue and embankments at Milwaukee and Palatine Road required landscaping, lighting and an irrigation system. The contractor installed berms in the center islands and cleaned up the embankments alongside the streets. Trees, shrubs, perennial flowers and groundcovers were then planted on the islands and embankments to enhance travelers' views as they enter the tourist district from Chicago Executive Airport. Funding for the project came from Prospect Heights hotel occupancy taxes. The contractor gave a warranty of one year on the landscaping.
The board also will consider grant allocations and discuss long-range planning issues on tourism topics.
