Village now taking applications for replacing sections of sidewalk; residents pay half the cost of replacement.
After the success of the previous Shared Cost Sidewalk Program, the Village of Mount Prospect is again offering residents and businesses the opportunity to replace sections of public sidewalks.
The program allows homeowners and businesses to apply for sidewalk replacements, at a cost of $68 per section of sidewalk. The village pays the other half of the cost of the sidewalk section. The cost is slightly higher than the previous program, due to an increase in the cost of concrete. The contractor will remove the old sidewalk, replace it with new concrete and backfill around the new section. A contractor will be selected in May by competitive bidding. The work will commence after the village selects the contractor and will continue through the summer.
Applications for the program are being accepted until May 16 -- or until funds are depleted -- on a first come, first served basis. Interested residents or businesses can apply online at www.mountprospect.org or at the Public Works Department, located at 1700 W. Central Road. Questions regarding sidewalk replacement should be directed to Public Works at 847-870-5640 or by emailing publicworksdept@mountprospect.org.
