The City of Elgin Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee will meet tomorrow, March 1, to hear status updates on several ongoing projects.

The committee will meet at 6 p.m. in the main lobby of the Gail Borden Public Library at 270 N. Grove Ave.

The latest updates on the bikeway projects will be presented to the committee, including the South Street extension, Chicago Street rehabilitation, Bikeway Route 1 and Bikeway Route 4 projects.

The committee will also hear and discuss the proposed activities and projects for 2016. These include Elgin History by Bicycle Loops, the Bike.Walk.Move: Elgin Week Events Calendar and the Boy Scout Bicycling Merit Badge training.

The committee will also hear a presentation called "Bikes vs. Cars" by the Batavia Environmental Commission. The 1.5-hour documentary is about the benefits of bicycles and the conflict in city planning between bikes and cars. It was filmed in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Bogota, Colombia; Copenhagen, Denmark; and Los Angeles, California.

The committee will also discuss March into Health Month and the Mayors Walking Challenge. The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for April 5.
