Mel Thillens, a Republican candidate for the Illinois Senate in District 28, was honored with his second Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce Community Star Award in three years at "A Night of Stars" Dinner and Dance on Feb. 20.
The Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce honors outstanding members of the community at its annual Community Star Dinner and Dance. Residents of Park Ridge make nominations for the Community Star Awards and Lifetime Achievement Award. The nominees are judged on their efforts in going above and beyond their normal duties to help build a better community, as role models for others and working to make positive changes in the community.
Thillens is currently serving as a Park Ridge Park District commissioner. He also volunteers for a variety of Park Ridge events and causes.
Thillens will be facing incumbent Sen. Laura Murphy (D-Dist. 28) in the general election on Nov. 8.
