National Louis University names Dr. Teri Talan as the endowed chair of the McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership.
Teri Talan was recently appointed as the Michael W. Louis chair of the McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership by National Louis University (NLU).
Currently, Talan is serving as the interim executive director. She is also a professor of early childhood education at the university.
Talan will fill her new position on Feb. 1. In addition, as part of her duties, Talan will help guide the search for a new executive director.
Talan is a nationally known advocate of early childhood workers. Her message to workers and administrators is that effective leadership that supports quality teaching helps children thrive in the early childhood education environment. Her published works include many articles plus co-authoring "Who's Caring for the Kids? The Status of the Early Education Workforce in Illinois," "Program Administration Scale" and "Business Administration Scale for Family Child Care."
National Louis University in Chicago was founded more than 125 years ago by education pioneer Elizabeth Harrison, whose training school for kindergarten teachers was a revolutionary concept. Her groundbreaking work in early childhood education led to the Head Start program. The National College of Education (NCE) added two more colleges in 1989 and became National Louis University in 1990.
