The ordinances abating the annual property tax are on the Elgin City Council agenda for approval at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
Ordinances abating the annual tax for 2015 will be reviewed by the Elgin City Council at its 7 p.m. meeting tomorrow, Feb. 24.
The portions of the city's debt that are paid for by utility fees and other revenues will be abated -- reducing property taxes -- after the ordinances are passed.
In addition to the property tax abatement ordinances, the council will consider the agreement with WesTech Engineering Inc. for repairs to the water treatment plant. Also on the agenda are ordinances regarding special use permits and signage. The council plans to discuss amending the Elgin Municipal Code regarding keeping chickens, as well.
Among the bids up for consideration is for the 2016 neighborhood water main rehabilitation for the Plum/St. John Project at $1 million, which will be followed by street rehabilitation in the same area -- for nearly $1.4 million.
The need for water main replacements were determined after an evaluation of the underground infrastructure. The water mains were inspected before street rehabilitation commenced. By replacing the water mains before making repairs and rehabilitating the streets, the city can avoid damaging the newly rehabilitated streets.
The water main replacement project is scheduled for completion by June 30; the street project, by Nov. 18.
